4th Generation Submarine CMS

Today, the volume of data collected from onboard submarine systems and various external sources exceeds human perception and cognitive capabilities. As the operational environment becomes increasingly complex, personnel face a heightened physical and mental workload. Unfortunately, constraints in recruitment have necessitated that tasks be performed with a limited workforce. To address these challenges, a Command and Control Information System (C2IS) is essential. This system, supported by data-driven decision-making, must encompass all functional areas aboard the submarine to effectively meet operational requirements and leverage advancements in technology.

According to the United Command and Control Concept, the 4th Generation Submarine Combat Management System (CMS) views the entire submarine as a cohesive Combat System. This approach not only prioritizes target detection and the effectiveness of torpedo and guided missile (G/M) launches but also ensures the overall success of the submarine’s missions.

The 4th Generation Submarine CMS possesses capabilities for "Operation Intelligence" and "Operation Autonomy." These features allow the system to identify relationships, patterns, and anomalies within the extensive data processed by information systems. By providing a comprehensive view of onboard business processes, the CMS helps determine how the results affect the "overall operation," thereby offering critical decision support for submarines and enabling the management of "operations" in unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs).

A focus on "human factors" in the design of layouts and consoles within the submarine control room (CIC) and UUV command centers enhances teamwork and streamlines business processes. The "Submarine CIC Orchestration" design is tailored to meet human factors requirements, effectively complementing the physical aspects of the 4th Generation CMS.

Furthermore, the 4th Generation Submarine CMS is not limited to submarines alone; it is applicable across other platform CMSs, unmanned surface vehicles (USV), and operational-level C2ISs, expanding its utility and enhancing operational effectiveness across various domains.
