HAVELSAN Joint C4I Product Family: Defense out of Box (DOOB)

Commanders and Headquarters need  continuous, fast, and timely flow of information to command and control all kinds of operations. This information is expected to flow from all military and civilian elements participating in or supporting the operation—the more timely and detailed the information flow is, the more significant its contribution to the decision-making process.

Information about friendly, neutral, and enemy assets is needed as well as the terrain and meteorology. Generating, monitoring, and displaying this information at the required level with the necessary details and near real-time precision can be translated as situational awareness. In return,  this supports information, decision-making and ultimately execution superiority.

This information which can also be called comprehensive battlefield information should be presented to the commanders in a timely fashion to enable them to make informed decisions for the command and control of their troops on the battlefield. To manage this, C4I systems are developed and expected to inter-operate with other command and control systems on the battlefield in an integrated and coherent manner to meet the complex operational requirements.

HAVELSAN has developed C4I product family called DOOB, which consists of three specific NATO-compatible solutions for the strategic, operational and tactical levels. The DOOB Joint C4I product family consists of DOOB-Headquarters, DOOB-Tactical Battle Management System and DOOB-Mobile. The goal of the product family is to meet the command and control requirements of military units from the highest level of command down to dismounted soldiers in an integrated manner.

DOOB-HQ (Headquarters) product is used with static and deployable systems at the strategic and operational levels to meet the requirements of the Joint Common Operational Picture and C4I. It is a modular set of applications that provides easy installation and use, can be scaled horizontally and vertically. It also uses microservices and open architecture, and has a strong and flexible infrastructure that can be easily adapted to new requirements. DOOB-HQ is compatible with many international and NATO standards, and the system's compliance with those standards is tested regularly in NATO and International Exercises.

DOOB-T (Tactical) Battle Management System (BMS) that works on low-bandwidth tactical radios and has selected capabilities of DOOB-HQ product that can be used at the tactical level. One of the system's most important features is that it can operate without a network connection. Whenever the network connection is re-established, offline works can be synchronized immediately.  DOOB-T BMS can be mounted on various armored personnel carriers or other vehicles, or dismounted soldiers can use it. Emergency medical aid, fire, close air support, emergency supply, maintenance requests, IED positions, casualties, surveillance, CBRN, logistics, and personnel status reports can be transmitted timely and rapidly to the higher unit, helping the uninterrupted flow of the operation.

In today’s information age, where technological developments are fast-tracking, use of mobile phone networks, internet services, and mobile applications are increasing rapidly. The use of these mobile applications by security forces for their business needs poses the risk of unauthorized access to confidential information. HAVELSAN has developed a mobile phone application called DOOB-M (Mobile) as a member of the DOOB C4I product family to provide the capabilities of a mobile phone network and the mobile applications running on this network for the use of security forces in a safe and controlled manner, thereby minimizing the risk mentioned above. The application provides the opportunity to monitor the user's health status and location information and to share information such as instant messages, audio, video, live video stream, and photos. The application also offers a vast command and control set examples such as: drawing capabilities, military tactical graphics, route calculation, querying historical location data, compass, and layer management.
